At Xradar AcademyTM, training is the cornerstone of our commitment to delivering industry-leading accuracy across all our services.
In an unregulated industry where minimal training is the norm, Xradar aims to set the highest standards for competence and consistency. In doing this we’ve shared knowledge across the country over decades of experience, and have built a training plan to benefit from this for the future.
Every newly hired technician begins their journey with a rigorous, structured training program that combines classroom theory with practical, in-field experience. This training spans six to twelve months, depending on the technician’s progress, and must be completed before any individual is authorized to lead a project.
We’re currently developing externally-accessible courses through Xradar Academy, focused on understanding scan results, safety, and reporting. They will be available for parterns of Xradar to use at some point soon.
Clear the area of loose materials, move furniture, provide site drawings/as-builts if available, and ensure straightforward parking and access. Our team will coordinate with you on schedule and any further requirements.
Ensure each core location has been scanned by Xradar, layout clear location of cores, provide local 20Amp, 110V power, provide a local water source, clear area below slab, and provide access and a safe working platform to other side of the slab or wall. Our team will coordinate with you on schedule and any further requirements.
Ensure each cutting location has been scanned by Xradar, layout clear location of required cutting, provide local 20Amp, 110V power, provide a local water source, obtain necessary permission for noise creation, and provide access. Our team will coordinate with you on schedule and any further requirements.
Site drawings or as-builts are always helpful, but not essential for every project. They allow us to plan scan areas efficiently and flag potential risks early. If unavailable, we’ll work with you on better understanding the exact scope of the project.
We regularly perform scans in tight, confined, or occupied environments using compact GPR units and portable equipment designed for flexibility and safety.
If we’ve cleared a zone for you and you core or cut within it, and still hit an unforeseen embedded target, we cover the cost of damage up to our guarantee limit. Terms apply.
If the damage occurs within a cleared zone marked by Xradar, we investigate immediately. If our internal review confirms the object should have been detected, repair costs are covered up to the guarantee limit.
We’re the first concrete scanning company in Canada offering a written guarantee. It reflects our confidence in accuracy, built on data, training, and rigorous processes.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is extremely safe for both operators and the public, it does not emit harmful radiation. Unlike X-rays, which use ionizing radiation, GPR is a non-destructive, non-invasive technology that uses high-frequency radio waves to create images of the subsurface. The power of the radio waves is very low, comparable to a Wi-Fi signal or a cell phone.
That depends on slab composition, reinforcement density, and site conditions. In typical slabs with access from one side we often achieve clear results up to 12 inches (30cm) deep, but two-sided access extends beyond this; we’ll advise though if conditions limit penetration.
GPR is highly effective, but some specific conditions can affect signal clarity. GPR signals do not pass through materials like metal plates, steel fiber-reinforced concrete, or dense, overlapping grids of rebar – Our technicians are trained to interpret these conditions accurately though.
Whilst X-ray is limited to the identification (imaging) of targets, GPR benefits as the choice for core or cut positioning, as well as embedment identification. GPR in teh right hands can deliver accurate, real-time, and safe results – without the disruption and risk associated with X-ray imaging.
Yes. Xradar partners with industry and academic groups to advance imaging accuracy, reporting standards, and equipment innovation across North America.
We’re actively developing partnership and reseller programs for qualified companies. If you’re interested, reach out to our partnerships team for more information.
We use ground penetrating radar (GPR) to send electromagnetic pulses into the concrete, and analyse their reflections. Our experienced technicians are trained to interpret the reflection data in order to identify the presence, depth, and layout of objects (such as post-tensioned cables (PT), rebar, conduits, voids, and others) before you core or cut.
Scanning ensures you know what lies beneath the surface. It helps avoid hitting reinforcement, post-tension cables, or utilities, reducing risk, time, and cost.
This very much depends on the specifics of the area needing scanning – the size, the depth, the access points, the contents of that slab, and your motivation for scanning in the first place. A scan could take anywhere between 30 minutes and a few hours, depending on the situation. Larger or multi-slab projects may take longer, but we’ll always estimate timelines before work begins.
Yes – a huge advantage of GPR over X-ray. Our technicians are also trained and equipped for live construction environments, with in-depth knowledge of your projects. We coordinate with your safety officers and comply with all site-specific requirements.
We provide both scanning and cutting/coring services. Our scanning always comes first to ensure safe drilling; then our coring/cutting teams (who are trained to read Xradar scans) execute using the scan data.
We operate across Canada with regional teams ready for many jobs same-day or next-day. Lead time depends on location, scope, and access though – contact your nearest office and we’ll be able to tell you quickly and estimated day we can be with you.
Yes. Many of our scans are completed after-hours or on weekends to suit construction schedules and minimize disruption to occupied spaces.
With our proprietary procedures and training through Xradar Academy™, our error rate is exceptionally low and every job is backed by our accuracy guarantee.
Yes. Our team is trained to perform scans on horizontal slabs, walls, ceilings, and underside of floors to locate embedded targets and clear drilling zones.
By using our prepriatory Xradar Concrete Scan Markings©. We mark directly on the concrete using colour-coded tape, paint, or chalk in our signature Xradar pattern, clearly identifying safe zones and embedded objects. We provide you with all of this information within our daily reports.
Each Xradar technician completes rigorous testing and calibration before performing scans. Our reports are reviewed internally for consistency and accuracy, backed by data validation standards.
Yes. We can export 2D or 3D data from scans to integrate with building information models or CAD drawings for record documentation and design planning.
Yes. Every scan is followed by a clear, industry-standard report and markings on the slab to show safe zones, embedded targets, and recommendations. This is often provided same-day.
We provide concrete scanning, cutting and coring reports in PDF as standard, with optional CAD or BIM exports for design teams needing precise record documentation.
Yes. Dense reinforcement, heavy conductors, very thick slabs, or certain materials may limit penetration or clarity. We’ll assess your structure and let you know though before proceeding.
Safety is central to our work. All technicians follow strict site protocols, are COR-certified, and complete regular health and safety training as part of our standards.
As a leader in concrete imaging services we’re always identifying ways to improve our services. For this reason we have started creating our own technology – to push beyond anything a regular company in our industry can achieve. It is with this tried and tested method that you can be confident in your ability to improve your service too, using our technology.
No matter the size of your project, we’re ready to help. Connect with your nearest Xradar office to get accurate results, clear communication, and fast turnaround times.
