Overview/Intro
Concrete corrosion is a natural occurrence within aging concrete structures. It occurs when water and oxygen find their way into concrete pores and/or voids. This causes a chemical reaction, resulting in the decay and deterioration of steel present in the concrete. As it occurs within the structure, it is undetected by the naked eye. Monitoring corrosion often falls by the wayside – as the old saying goes ‘out of sight, out of mind’.
The Challenge
Xradar was hired to provide a corrosion analysis of a large two level parking garage. The client was concerned about two specific areas that had noticeable signs of spalled concrete. These areas were 600m² and 525m² respectively.
Scope of Work
Service Provided: Concrete scanning for safe anchoring locations.
Scan Area: Minimum 5’ x 5’ per site.
Depth Requirement: Clearance to a minimum of 4″ to safely accommodate 2″ anchors.
Project Locations: 60+ Pandora stores across Canada.
Our Solution
To deliver consistent results, Xradar coordinated a multi-location schedule that grouped store visits by logical driving routes. This efficient planning minimized travel time and cost while keeping all appointments aligned with store opening hours. Each project day began at 10 a.m. to coincide with store operations, and technicians remained in direct communication with store managers to coordinate access and minimize disruption.
Our technicians, trained through Xradar Academy, maintained a professional on-site presence, equipped with clean and professional gear, marking scans with clean tape, and scan zone stickers, to clearly define and communicate safe areas. Clear communication and standardized reporting ensured that every location received the same level of accuracy and detail and Xradar’s guarantee.
Methodology
Each scan was completed using Xradar’s advanced GPR analysis methods (analysis of the radar’s amplitude, phase, and shape). The technicians performed systematic free-hand scans, verifying scan zones to a minimum depth of 4 inches to ensure safe drilling into the concrete.
Consistent workflows and reporting formats were maintained across all sites, verified through internal quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency nationwide.
Results/ Conclusion
Conclusion
Xradar successfully scanned all Pandora locations within the client’s timeframe, providing same-day reports for safe fixture installation. This project highlighted Xradar’s effective standardized processes and national coordination, ensuring safety, consistency, and cost-efficiency across multiple provinces.
Our precise planning, clear communication, and consistent delivery enabled Pandora’s teams to proceed confidently, demonstrating Xradar’s reputation for reliability, accuracy, and professionalism in multi-site scanning across Canada.
